COVID Non-Compliant Groups

The Campus Safety Office was present at many locations on campus where large groups have congregated outdoors and have exceeded the allowable COVID-19 limit on the campus of 25 persons. There have been incidents of aggressive physical behaviour that resulted in several investigations by the CSO where charges are pending. If you choose to socialize, ensure that you comply with all COVID-19 health and safety requirements, including wearing a mask and socially distancing. Avoid socializing in large groups and with people, you do not know.

Suspicious Substances in Drinks

The Campus Safety Office (CSO) has received information from students who believe that unbeknownst to them, a foreign substance was placed in their drinks. The CSO is investigating the situation. Be vigilant. If you choose to socialize, the CSO reminds you to comply with all COVID-19 health and safety requirements, such as social distancing, wearing a mask, and limiting the size of your group. Avoid all large gatherings; do not socialize with people you do not know.

CCP Front Foyer Closed to Members of the Public

Campus Community Police (CCP) Main Office Foyer is now closed to members of the public. You can reach the CCP Dispatcher by calling our non-emergency line or by attending to 32 Trent Lane and speak with a Dispatcher through a remote telephone line by dialing extension 52245.

These measures are aimed at protecting our staff and members of the public to minimize the possibility of human-to-human transmission of the virus.

Theft from Edmund C. Bovey Building

The Edmund C. BOVEY building is located at the north-west corner of Gordon Street and South Ring Road on the University of Guelph Campus; the complex houses both faculty as well as research facilities and includes an expansive network of greenhouses and growth room facilities.

Over the resent weekends (4/5 February) and (11/12 February) suspects entered the BOVEY complex and removed the following items:

Specialized LED Growth Lights, HPS (High Pressure Sodium) Lights, and a Digital Balance (scale).

Also missing is a Dell brand CPU and Monitor.

Rental Scams in Guelph

The Guelph Police Service - Fraud Unit would like to remind those looking to rent or those who have posted a property for rent to take extra care to protect themselves from becoming the victim of an online Rental Scams.

Whether you are renting the property or looking to rent – DEAL IN PERSON and NOT through EMAIL.

Increased number of bicycle thefts

We have been experiencing an increased number of bicycle thefts on campus

Please remember to lock your bike with a quality U-lock, not a cable or chain lock which can be easily cut.

If you see anyone suspicious around bicycles or at bicycle racks, please contact us without delay.

Canada Revenue Agency Scams in Guelph April 2015

CRA scams being reported again in Guelph

The Guelph Police Service – Fraud Unit wishes to notify the public about an ongoing scam involving fraudulent communications; phone calls, mail, text messages, and emails claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency.

These communications instruct the taxpayer to provide personal information in order to receive a refund or benefit payment.

These are scams and taxpayers should NEVER respond to these fraudulent communications, or click on any of the links provided.

Sexual Assault in cab January 2015

On Sunday January 11, 2015 at approx. 2:00 a.m., 3 females who were unknown to each other hired a Red Top taxi from the area of Wyndham and Wellington Street. One female was dropped off at the University of Guelph and the second female was dropped off on Gordon Street. It is alleged that the third female sitting in the front seat was touched in a
sexual manner by the cab driver.

Theft from cars January 2015

Sometime overnight between Monday January 5th to Tuesday January 6th, 2015, several cars had their passenger side window smashed and items stolen from their vehicles while parked in parking lot #13 located on the east side of South Residence.

Voyeurism investigation by GPS November 2

On November 2nd, 2014, Guelph Police started an investigation into a complaint of a male who was peeping into a residence late at night in the area of Caledonia Street. Through investigation, it was learned that the accused had engaged in this activity beginning in July, 2014.

A 27 year old Guelph male has been charged with two counts of voyeurism and two counts of trespass by night. The investigation is ongoing.
