Leaving Property Unattended - Invites Theft

Laptops and knapsacks that are left unattended can be a quick target of choice for a thief. Thefts such as this have occurred across campus and in shared spaces.When you walk away from your property and leave it unattended you may be leaving yourself open to a theft. To minimize your risk of losing your property here are some tips.  

Campus Safety Office Special Constable tips:

  • Record and keep in a secure location the make, model, serial number, and original cost of your computer and take a picture of your computer.
  • If you leave your work space ask a friend to watch your property until your return, or take your property with you. 
  • Close and lock your door when you leave your room or office. 
  • Keep your keys on you at all times.
  • If you see someone acting suspicious call the Campus Safety Office immediately, providing our Dispatch team with a description of the thief!
