Safe Semester results in respectful place for all downtown Guelph users
The 2017 Safe Semester project, running September 8 to October 1, promotes a safe environment for students returning to Guelph, and a respect for shared community spaces.
During Safe Semester, roads in the downtown area will be closed from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. There will also be additional downtown services such as extended late night transit, extra portable washrooms and increased access to taxis.

The Edmund C. BOVEY building is located at the north-west corner of Gordon Street and South Ring Road on the University of Guelph Campus; the complex houses both faculty as well as research facilities and includes an expansive network of greenhouses and growth room facilities.
Over the resent weekends (4/5 February) and (11/12 February) suspects entered the BOVEY complex and removed the following items:
Specialized LED Growth Lights, HPS (High Pressure Sodium) Lights, and a Digital Balance (scale).
Also missing is a Dell brand CPU and Monitor.
Campus Community Police are searching for a small ball python snake believed to be loose in the University Centre.
The snake was reported missing today from the University Centre’s second floor. It was brought to campus in a student’s backpack.
Campus Community Police and pest control specialists from Physical Resources are searching the building.
The four-year-old snake is brown and black and about two feet long.
Safety Grant Information
The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities provides funding annually to enhance women's safety at the University of Guelph. Applications can be submitted by any individual groups from the community.
The funding can be used to implement findings from safety audits, to educate and inform students, faculty, and staff about safety and security issues and for programs and equipment that will address safety and security needs on campus.
